The first meeting set a positive environment of exchange and cooperation among the 10 partners’ delegations, around the topic of waste management and environment protection.
The participants have been engaged in activities aimed at introducing the WASTE project, presenting the new CERV- Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme 2021-2027 and the Environment Action program of the European Union. After getting acquainted with European actions and policies in the environmental field, the delegates shared best practices and projects regarding environment protection, climate-friendly communities, and innovative waste management systems.
A more practical approach was then used during the “Target Tree workshop”, led by Mrs. Urszula Herbich, in which all the participants have been involved in informal brainstorming activities.
An evening has been dedicated to the transmission of skills on informal training about team building techniques, led by Prof. Juliusz Tyszka (Institute of Cultural Studies, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań).
Moments of integration with the local community of Jabłonna were also organized.
On the first day, the delegates joined the students of the Primary School “Stefan Krasinski” in Chotomów settlement for a “World cleaning action” and visited Jabłonna’s Waste Collection Points and heard the plans of the municipality for its innovation; they also visited the Forester Center in Skierdy to learn about ways to manage forests and grow new seedlings for reforesting. On the second day the group visited the historical center of Warsaw together with the hosting citizens and on the evening of the third day they joined the local citizens in Skierdy for a typical Easter refreshment, where they could learn about Polish Easter traditions and join workshops about eggs painting and easter bouquets preparation.
The International Event resulted in positive cooperation and all participants took an active part in all the activities, bringing added value and bottom-up contribution to the project.
The next International Event will be held in Panevėžys (Lithuania) from May 11th to 15th, with the topic “Waste Management and the Community: the role of the civil society”. The project will meet a bigger city, since Panevėžys is the third Lithuania city, and get in touch with innovative and forward-looking projects for the environment in the Baltic Region.
